Unsupported Devices
The following devices are not compatible with our exam software due to technical limitations or security restrictions:
- Mobile Phones: These devices lack the processing power, screen resolution, and security protocols necessary to run the exam software securely.
- iPads/Tablets: While convenient, tablets do not meet the functionality requirements for key features such as screen sharing or multi-monitor detection, making them incompatible.
- Computers in ‘S’ mode: Devices operating in ‘S’ mode restrict the installation of third party applications, preventing the exam software from functioning correctly.
- Chromebooks/Notebooks: These devices use operating systems like Chrome OS that are incompatible with the software and often lack sufficient processing power.
- Work/School PCs: Organisationally managed devices are commonly restricted by administrator controls, firewalls, or high-security antivirus software, which can block the installation or operation of the exam platform.
The exam software requires a secure and stable environment that supports installation of third party apps, robust processing power, and compatible operating systems. For these reasons, only specific device types are supported.
Troubleshooting: Common Access Issues
Here are some factors that could prevent you from accessing your exam:
Wi-Fi Restrictions (e.g., Parental Controls or Network Security)
What’s happening: Certain Wi-Fi networks may have settings or restrictions that block important features, like screen sharing or streaming, which are needed for the exam software to work properly.
How to fix it:
- Disable any security restrictions: If your Wi-Fi has parental controls or other security settings, these might interfere with the exam software. You can check your router’s settings and adjust these as necessary.
- Switch to a different network: If you’re unable to adjust these settings, try connecting to a different Wi-Fi network, such as one at home without restrictions. Avoid using public Wi-Fi, as it can be slow or have additional security measures that block access.
TalkTalk Wi-Fi Blocks Screen Sharing
What’s happening: TalkTalk internet services may block screen sharing, which is essential for the exam software.
How to fix it:
- Contact TalkTalk support: Reach out to TalkTalk and ask them to unblock screen sharing on your connection. It’s best to do this ahead of time to ensure everything works on exam day.
High-Security Antivirus Software
What’s happening: Some antivirus programs may mistakenly block the exam software by flagging it as a potential threat.
How to fix it:
- Temporarily disable your antivirus: Before starting your exam, you may need to disable your antivirus software temporarily to allow the exam software to run.
- Add an exception: Alternatively, you can add the exam software to your antivirus’s exception or trusted list. This will let the program run without interruptions while keeping your device protected.
Public Wi-Fi (e.g., Libraries, Coffee Shops, Hotels, etc.)
What’s happening: Public Wi-Fi networks are often slower and have additional security measures in place, which can interfere with the exam software.
How to fix it:
- Avoid public Wi-Fi: We recommend not using public networks for your exam, as they tend to have slower speeds and stricter security that might prevent access.
- Use a private network: Instead, connect to your home Wi-Fi or a secure personal hotspot for a more stable and reliable connection.
